Welcome back to the Hire Great Help Podcast! 🎉
Today, we’re diving into a topic that’s both liberating and a bit daunting: becoming the least important person in your business. Just imagine the freedom! If you’ve been glued to your phone or laptop, constantly communicating with all the moving parts of your business, this episode is for you.
This is the second episode in our new series aimed at helping you escape the technical grind and scale your business sustainably. If you missed the first episode, be sure to go back and catch up. But if you’re ready to roll, let’s jump right in!
Remember the cycle of pride and admiration for what you've built that I mentioned last time? It's holding you captive, limiting your business's growth. Today, we're talking about freeing yourself from the CEO ownership trap. Before we get into the nitty-gritty of delegation, let’s do some mental work. This is crucial for making it a reality.
Let me share a bit of my journey. When I started my first few businesses, I was constantly on my laptop, working 15-16 hours a day. It was exciting, but I had no clue what I was doing. Fast forward 10 years, and I’ve learned that success isn’t about clocking endless hours. It’s about seeing your business as separate from your self-worth.
We often link our ego to what we've created, which can become a trap. You might start believing that you’re the only one who can manage and grow your business. This belief can lead to burnout and a scattered feeling. The root of this is often fear—fear of not being able to handle more customers or commitments.
So here’s a challenge for you: Write down what it would look like to be the least important person in your business. This diagnosis of being stuck in the CEO ownership trap is the first step to healing. Hand off management tasks to your team and trust that they can handle it. If they need guidance, create some short SOPs or have them shadow you.
If you’re struggling with this, my team and I are here to help. Book a call with us, and we can explore how to effectively hand off tasks so you can enjoy some free time. The real pain is not knowing how to delegate and not being confident in the quality of work others will produce. But you can overcome this.
Listen to this short episode and ask yourself: What's a new thought, a new belief, and a new action you can take to break free from the ownership trap? I hope this was helpful. Share it with a fellow CEO or business bestie who could use some liberation. And make sure you get outside and enjoy this fall season!
See you in the next episode! 🍂
